This piece is one I created as one of my final projects for a document design class. Being a writer and editor I can't help but immediately inspect every piece of written word that I come across. One piece that consistently gives me the yearning for my red pen is our weekly church bulletin. Many issues with layout and content are often overlooked because it is a weekly publication and because it is merely one of many duties assigned to our church secretary. I thought this would be a great project to take on since I have such a close personal connection with it. Because there were so many issues with the content (some sections are bilingual, some aren't), I decided to tackle the design and leave the content issues for another time.
I chose to include this piece because it is a complex document design example. The document was created in Microsoft Word using a combination of themes and manual editing. Overall I think it is a good example of my use of color, font, and images to make an appealing document for a multicultural audience.

Here is an example of the weekly bulletin prior to my document redesign work. As you can see by comparing the two versions, I updated the typeface, graphics and general layout. I also worked to modernize and simplify the information in an effort for it to be more readable for the audience.
