Persuasive Writing
The example below is one of persuasive writing, written contrasting and comparing America's two most popular household pets, cats and dogs. I found that drawing on Aristotle's five canons of rhetoric helped me to assemble this paper from a mere thought into a dynamic piece of persuasive writing. I wrote this piece drawing on Aristotle's three means of persuasion, in fact, they were the building blocks that helped me establish my argument. Even though this example of writing has a satirical foundation, I do believe it maintains the Aristotelian ability to persuade any audience.
I decided to include this piece in my portfolio because I feel it represents an interesting dichotomy- it is a comical persuasive piece. It is both funny, in my opinion, and serious at the same time. I thought this piece would be a nice addition to my ePortfolio because it shows a lighter side of my writing. I sincerely enjoy comedy writing, especially satire. I thought it was especially important to add this piece because it is so much different than the others included here.
